Title: THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN ART – MODERNISM AND ABSTRACTION IN THE PERIOD 1910-1925
Author(s): Marinela Rusu
Affiliation(s): Senior Researcher II PhD. and Visual Artist, Romanian Academy, Institute ”Gheorghe Zane” from Iași Branch, România
Abstract: Abstraction in painting and sculpture developed simultaneously in several European capitals in the first decade of the 20th century. This phenomenon was, of course, inextricably linked to the formal developments of post-impressionism and cubism, implying the desire to separate from nature but also to give the resulting new art a deep spiritual content, thus becoming a characteristic of the modernist period. This paper analyzes the defining aspects of the development of abstraction in art at the beginning of the 20th century. On the one hand, we will present the way in which the visual language specific to modernism derived from the decorative arts, especially the textile one, and on the other hand, we will analyze the way in which the fashion currents that resulted from the geometric abstractions in art, have come to signify modernity, being able at the same time to evade social changes that have taken place, ultimately eroding the ideal of individual artistic freedom, so valued by modern artists since the beginning of the 20th century. We will seek to understand the role of women in modern artistic creation, both as producers of this new visual culture but also as signifiers of the meaning of everything that was created during this period. The present paper also refers to the change in the interpretation of the female body in art, moving from the previous status, seen as an erotic attack on the female form (e.g.: "Prostitutes" by Manet and Picasso, "Primitives" by Gauguin, "Nudes" of Matisse – who presented women as powerless and sexually subjugated), to stylistic and formal innovations.

Title: ART-BASED INTERVENTION STRATEGIES. PERSPECTIVES OF SOCIAL PEDAGOGY ON COMMUNITY-BASED URBAN AND RURAL REGENERATION PROJECTS
Author(s): Adina – Petronela Vechiu
Affiliation(s): Assistant PhD., ”Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, Iaşi, România
Abstract: Social pedagogy stands out as an interdisciplinary field concerned with social and educational interventions, which aim to facilitate human well-being by preventing and improving the deficiencies that lead to the achievement of individual potential and adaptation to society. The practical-applicative nature of social pedagogy involves the involvement of interdisciplinary teams of specialists in approaches aimed at identifying people or communities in difficulty, including, analyzing problems and effects and outlining customized intervention strategies in order to provide experiences aimed at optimizing the capacity of social adaptation. The methodological spectrum of the intervention plans has flexibility and allows applications with different degree of amplitude following the individual axis – community – society. Given the methodological diversity of social and socio-educational intervention projects, in this paper we will focus on strategies based on artistic activities. We will bring to the fore the impact of art consumption from both perspectives, of the warm universe related to the individual creator of artistic products and the cold universe, which reflects the valences of consumerism. In addition, we will highlight the potential benefits of involvement in artistic activities, referring to research evidence that has confirmed the link between art and improving quality of life across multiple sectors of private or community life. Art-based interventions respond to a high degree of applicability, for this reason we have summarized to offer some examples of community projects that capture the innovative approach of urban and rural regeneration on Romanian territory.

Title: A FEW CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE BEGINNING OF HUMAN KIND AND ART. PROTO PALEOLITHIC
Author(s): Ioana – Iulia Olaru
Affiliation(s): Professor PhD., “George Enescu” National University of Arts, Iaşi, România
Abstract: This material refers to a topic less present among the preoccupations of Art historians. This fact is surprising, because for so old an epoch as the one which is previous to Paleolithic, the artefacts that have reached out times are the only ones that facilitate knowledge about the human beings from that period. These were represented by Homo habilis, the creator of the first archeological culture from the entire History, called “Olduvayan” or pebble culture, named after the site from Olduvay (Tanzania, Africa). In meridional Europe, on the territory of France and Spain, sites were found and they could be dated back to Protopaleolithic, and also in Asia (Mongolia), incisions and traces of fire were also found. Except for the proofs about the settlements and dwellings from the 1st layer Olduvay (the oldest house in History), the figurative “art” of this period is represented taking the shape of the premises of a future Prehistoric Art.

Title: THE USEFULNESS OF ART THERAPY TECHNIQUES IN EDUCATIONAL COUNSELING
Author(s): Maria Corcevoi
Affiliation(s): Lecturer PhD., ”Alecu Russo” State University, Bălţi, Republic of Moldavia
Abstract: Art therapy techniques are essential in educational counseling, particularly in the context of globalization and digitalization, where stress, anxiety, social isolation, and informational overload increasingly impact students' mental health. Art therapy provides a creative means to address these challenges through activities such as drawing, painting, or modeling, allowing students to express emotions and thoughts non-verbally, thereby relieving tension. Artistic expression not only facilitates access to emotions and experiences but also offers a context in which clients can creatively reshape their self-perception and personal experiences. This process supports healing and personal development, solidifying art therapy as a valuable method in educational and psychological counseling.

Title: ART THERAPY AS A PRACTICE IN TIMES OF WAR AND TRAUMA INTERVENTION: THE ROLE OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION FOR CHILDREN IN UKRAINIAN REFUGEE CAMPS IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA
Author(s): Valeria Barbas
Affiliation(s): Superior Researcher PhD., Institute of Cultural Heritage, Chișinău, Republic of Moldovia
Abstract: The recent war in Ukraine has brought physical and psychological damage widespreading trauma that can last for generations leaving indelible marks. Art therapy as a practice within war zones aids community cohesion and trauma processing during times of crisis. Unlike talk therapies, a non-verbal, accessible art practice has become a necessity, especially for children. In seven refugee camps in Republic of Moldova, a series of art workshops “My home” were conducted by Valeria Barbas for over 150 displaced Ukrainian children (in 2022). The independent initiative, which addresses the fragility of the concept of home, aimed to provide a temporary sense of security through art practice. Using drawing and painting as primary mediums in visual creation, fostered self-expression, so as the participatory, sharing and realization experiences, a sense of community.

Title: IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING VISUAL ARTS IN NIGERIAN BASIC EDUCATION SCHOOLS
Author(s): Felix Onaiwu Osaigbovo
Affiliation(s): Associate Professor PhD., University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria
Abstract: The Unesco institute for statistics defines Basic education as a whole range of educational activities taking place in various settings, that aim to meet basic learning needs as defined in the World Declaration on Education for All (Jomtien, Thailand, 1990). According to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) standard, basic education comprises primary education (first stage of basic education) and lower secondary education (second stage). This is the formative stage of education and so extreme care needs be taken in teaching and steering children of this age which most likely would be roughly between five and thirteen years. Most schools do not follow the right way of teaching visual arts in these basic schools especially when they lack the right trained manpower to cope with the subject and so it is the desire of this writer to proffer solutions to this problem in this aspect of basic education. The objective of this research is to compartmentalize and bring to the fore how visual art should be taught at this level of education. The methods of carrying out this research are both pedagogical, descriptive and quasi-survey with a touch of literature review and at the end, it was found out that various classes have their various methods of imparting knowledge of the visual arts on the pupils and students and that teaching of this class is not without its attendant problems. Solutions were proffered, conclusions were drawn and recommendations made.

Abstract: The habit of discarding cigarette butts on the ground is an old but still recurring problem around the world. Having noticed this problem at a higher education institution in Portugal, the aim was to use art as an environmental education activity to raise awareness among smokers. It is well known that art, in its many forms, can be used to raise awareness of environmental conservation. This work is more than just an environmental education activity to raise awareness in the community, it is also a data collection project aimed at ascertaining the impact of the work in question on the community. This study can be methodologically classified as a participatory action research study, using art as an educational intervention and data collection instrument for environmental awareness. The data showed that the respondents encouraged more initiatives of this nature and were sensitized to the problem after seeing the work.

Abstract: In this presentation, I will discuss the potential of drawing practice to amplify our perception and learning capacity. I will describe firstly what I consider formal, non-formal and informal drawing related to the different types of education. Then I will point out which aspects of our learning process can be affected by each of these modes or types of drawing and framework. Some concrete exercises and results will also be explained in order to demonstrate and exemplify the characteristics described previously. In the last part, I will go deeper into a set of non-formal exercises entitled Drawing While Moving, the main part of an educational innovation project at the University of Murcia. This journey will allow me to conclude with some appreciations linked to environmental awareness and how the scarce connection with the natural space (planetary body) and our own body can be approached through the practice of drawing.

Abstract: This article discusses the spread of Chinese porcelain in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries and its impact on European art, culture, and economy. Fueled by global trade networks, Chinese porcelain entered the European market through the East India Companies, becoming a luxury item for aristocrats and the upper class. As demand for porcelain grew, Europe gradually began to imitate and develop its own porcelain industry, exemplified by Germany's Meissen. Chinese porcelain not only had a profound influence on material culture but also shaped European artistic creation through its styles and decorative patterns. By analyzing the economic, artistic, and cultural impacts of porcelain trade between China and Europe, this paper reviewed the general overview of porcelain exchange during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Abstract: A growing body of research has shown the multiple benefits narrative therapy has on personal development and overcoming adversities. With social change increasingly becoming part of mainstream psychological practice, narrative therapy offers an innovative and inclusive model for honoring the lived experience of clients. In July 11-12 and September 18, 2024, within the ICMA UNAGE ArtReal grant: “Interdisciplinary radiographies between performance art and narrative psychology”, a series of workshops took place. During these workshops, a narrative specialist applied the Tree of Life technique on 33 students of “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, from the Faculty of Theatre, the Faculty of Music Performance, Composition and Theoretical Music Studies and the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design. The subjects completed three questionnaires focused on locus of control, self-compassion and psychological resilience, before and after the workshops. We considered the three variables relevant to their artistic identity, as their feedback provided the subjects with the opportunity to complete their own story as actors, musicians or visual artists. Through comparative statistical analysis, we discovered significant differences in resilience, locus of control and self-compassion levels before and after the workshops. Although the small group of participants makes it difficult to generalize the results, these findings create new implications regarding the value of narrative therapy for the construction of identity.

Title: THE COGNITIVE BENEFITS OF ART
Author(s): Felicia Ceaușu
Affiliation(s): Researcher III PhD., Romanian Academy, Institute ”Gheorghe Zane” from Iași Branch, România
Abstract: Numerous studies have shown that engaging in drawing can have a positive effect on various cognitive functions. One of the key ways that drawing affects the brain is by improving concentration. When we draw, our brains are forced to focus on the task at hand, which can help improve our attention span and ability to stay focused on other tasks as well. In people who regularly engage in drawing, brain scans have shown an overall increase in gray matter in both hemispheres of the brain. Following the scan, the old belief that artists often use the right side of the brain was dismantled. Drawing also stimulates the brain's creative processes, helping to increase our problem-solving skills and ability to think outside of stereotypes. By allowing our minds to wander and explore different ideas through drawing, we are able to come up with unique solutions to problems and think more creatively in general. The researchers analyzed the effects of images of real works of art versus reproductions displayed on volunteers' glasses inside a working MRI scanner. Real works of art had a strong positive response in the precuneus, the part of the brain involved in consciousness, self-reflection and personal memories. Gerrit van Honthorst's opera „The Violin Player” gave a positive "approach" stimulus of 0.41 out of 1 in real life. For the poster, the impact was only 0.05. Additionally, drawing can have a calming effect on the brain, helping to reduce stress and anxiety. When we draw, our brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of pleasure and reward. This can help reduce feelings of stress and improve our overall sense of well-being. Moreover, an increased level of gray matter was also observed in the parietal lobe of the brain of the artists. The parietal lobe is the area responsible for improving spatial orientation and cognition. Drawing is used in the treatment of people with brain conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and more. Drastic improvements are observed in memory. When you look more closely at a work of art, really notice it, your brain can begin to mimic the neural activity of the artist who created it. New neural pathways begin to form and a state of inspiration is stimulated.

Title: THE PRACTICE OF SLOW WALKING APPLIED TO ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS AND ARTISTIC RESEARCH
Author(s): María Dolores Esparza Sánchez
Affiliation(s): Candidate Doctoral, University, Murcia, Spain
Abstract: Quite often one of the questions that young researchers face with difficulty is the differentiation between methods, methodologies, processes and procedures. Immersed in the development of my doctoral thesis, this question has occupied a fundamental part of my work so far because the process, that distance that separates the inputs from the outputs or the first actions from the results, takes on a more than remarkable importance in my approach. In my approach, the process is like an essence that is replicated and tinges on the whole of the research. The application of the slow walking technique, linked to detailed study, drawing, dimensioning and measuring, affects the development of all my research. This presentation focuses on the description of the process in my doctoral research, understood as a line on which I walk, the line that I inhabit and that inhabits me. Green intelligence, vegetal displacements and ecological awareness will be the main connected points of this approach.

Title: ETHICAL VALUES IN ART EDUCATION
Author(s): Mirela Ștefănescu
Affiliation(s): Researcher III PhD., “George Enescu” National University of Arts, Iași, România
Abstact: One of the major problems of contemporary society concerns the moral state of people, especially the younger generation. Although it has always been a concern of human society, the topic of ethics education is more relevant than ever. Thus, in this article, we will analyze ethical values from the perspective of knowledge, understanding, and their correct application in the academic environment. These are essential principles that underlie artistic creation and scientific research, contributing to the formation of integrity professionals and the development of the ability to analyze human behavior in the university environment. Ethical values represent a fundamental pillar in the academic environment, guiding the behavior and decisions of all those involved in the educational process, constituting the set of moral norms that regulate the research process and optimize social interactions within higher education institutions. In this context, we will highlight the role of higher education institutions in promoting and applying ethical values, thus ensuring an integral academic climate which is beneficial for personality development, the growth of ethical thinking, and professional fulfillment.

Affiliation(s): Assistant PhD., Assistant PhD., ”Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, Iași, România
Abstract: Particular attention is paid to the learning experiences that students benefit from during their time spent in school institutions and the social climate of the student class. Experts from different fields are striving to support an effective instructional process by developing documents regulating school curricula, which aim at holistic personality formation, empowerment and optimal adaptation to a constantly changing society. Although specialists' recommendations support desiderata that refer to the development of healthy attitudes and behaviour aimed at optimizing students well-being and strengthening their sense of belonging to the group, there is little discussion of the hidden curriculum and its role in shaping the behaviour of children and young people. This paper highlights the role of the teacher as a leader of the group of students - able to influence the classroom climate by promoting values and attitudes that foster empathy and social proactivity. We have developed these ideas by particularizing them in relation to the difficulties posed by bullying. Our discourse focused on peer leadership skills aimed at diminishing bullying behavior and ensuring a positive classroom climate. The paper also presents a series of recommendations aimed at useful practices for optimizing teachers' ability to influence by implementing a hidden curriculum that acts as a brake against hostile climate.

Author(s): Smărăndița – Elena Costin
Affiliation(s): Candidate Doctoral, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza”, Iași, România
Abstract: This article presents methodological suggestions for integrating art-language activities into reading circles for fourth-grade students. The focus is on fostering creativity, interpretative skills, and active participation through multimodal and interactive reading experiences. By valorizing the expressive and aesthetic dimensions of language, the suggested strategies aim to enhance students’ engagement with literary texts and to develop their communicative competence. Practical examples are provided to illustrate how art-language technique can be used to enrich reading comprehension, stimulate imagination, and encourage personal responses to literature. The proposed approaches are anchored in contemporary didactic principles and adapted to the cognitive and affective needs of primary school learners. The case study will focus on Veronica D. Niculescu’s novel A Summer with Isidor, which will be explored through an interdisciplinary lens by the students, with particular emphasis on its visual dimension.

Abstract: This study explores the impact of the internet on modern individuals, highlighting its dual role as both a tool for accessing information and a medium that shapes reality. While the internet offers benefits in education, communication, and entertainment, excessive use can lead to addiction, with negative effects on mental and physical health, such as anxiety, depression, social isolation, and decreased academic performance. Definitions of internet addiction are reviewed, and key explanatory models are brought to the forefront. Studying internet addiction remains essential for understanding its complex implications on personal, academic, and social success.

Abstract: Humans uniquely possess the highest form of knowledge – art. Through art, we construct worlds where we experience emotions and events that are not directly our own. Recent anthropogenetic studies have shown that the humanoid developmental line that survived was the one that began creating and expressing emotions in primitive artistic forms. Thus, embracing art is a natural progression for the human species. Drawing on the parallels between phylogenetic and ontogenetic isomorphism, art can be integrated into a child's development from the earliest moments of life, including during the prenatal stage.

Author(s): Marina Caliga
Affiliation(s): Candidate Doctoral, Lecturer, ”Alecu Russo” State University, Bălţi, Republic of Moldavia
Abstract: This study highlights and theoretically argues the approach to the conceptual direction of integrality and system in the field of education, the multi-aspect perception of the respective phenomena. The analysis of literature from different fields, of normative acts, of national and international experiences regarding musical education determined the formulation of a series of benchmarks regarding the integrality. This fact led to forming an integral vision in the development of the student's personality and designating the ways to achieve this objective in the musical-educational field. The integrality becomes one of the basic dimensions of the systemic unit, being the result of the interconnection of the components of this system. The concept of integrality in the contemporary educational system is characterized by the formation of a new type of thinking, being in accordance with the new educational orientations. The integrality is under the influence of the profound changes taking place in education, there being several factors that prove the increased interest in the concept of integrality in musical pedagogy.

Abstract: The educational society highlights new ways of approaching the teaching process. Among these new approaches there is one that comes from the perspective of the new artificial intelligence. In other words, in this research our goal is to see to what extent the emergence and continuous development of AI has determined and still determines a new approach to the assimilation and learning process. Certainly, such an approach becomes exhaustive as a series of topics referring to such a theme are analyzed and explained. Under these conditions, the purpose of this research is to explore how aesthetics – in its sense of perception, beauty and harmony – can influence and improve the educational process in the context of the use of the artificial intelligence (AI). We are equally interested in analyzing how the concept of "aesthetics", usually associated with arts and design, can be applied to the teaching-learning process to create enjoyable and effective educational experiences. That is why we consider the approaches by which the learning materials are structured, the user interface in AI-based educational platforms or the design of virtual educational spaces, all contributing to a harmonious, attractive and pragmatic learning experience.
